Here is another door in my "Memory of Venice" series. It is called "Venetian Guardian" for the carved head that seems to guard the entrance to this Venetian home. … a four-century old guardian. The crumbling brickwork, the intricate ironwork on and above the door, all of this is typical of the fading beauty that is so unique to Venice. This original painting is inspired from my own photo taken on a rather overcast day...I invented the light and the warmth this time:-)

It is painted on Arches 140 lb CP with mostly W&N and Da Vinci paints.
What I like the most about this painting is the top half of the walls where I used the pouring technique: I was happy about the warmth around the carved head and the contrast with the other, cooler parts of the wall.

This painting received 3 features on the Australian site Red Bubble in Feb. 2011:
1.in the Time Gates group:

2. in the 100-499 viewings group:
3. in the Painters Universe group

  1. Christiane, this painting is luscious. I find your use of what look to be poles very interesting design elements. The piece would be lovely without them, but they help guide the eye. I like you delicate handling of the grates and the way that no element of the piece overwhelms the beauty of the whole.

  3. Wow, you have achieved some very subtle pastel hued nuances in the coloration on the bricks/stone! Very nice!
